We are proud to be supporting Gas Safety Week 2018.

Gas Safety Week, now in its eighth year, is running from 17th-23rdSeptember and is coordinated by the Gas Safe Register. Across the seven days, Gas Safety Week will explore a number of topics, with each day taking on a separate theme. From information about carbon monoxide to tips for spotting illegal gas workers, the week aims to inform people about the dangers of poorly maintained gas appliances and how they can protect themselves.

Every year across the UK, thousands of people are diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning, which is often the result of a faulty gas appliance such as a boiler or cooker. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning such as headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea and even collapse and loss of consciousness. This is why Gas Safety Week is so important. It is vital that homes are fitted with audible carbon monoxide alarms, to ensure that occupants are alerted to the presence of the colourless, odourless gas as quickly as possible. The Gas Safe Register shares the stories of those affected by carbon monoxide and provides a number of tips for people to stay gas safe during the week.

In the same way that children are taught about fire safety it is vital to educate them on the dangers of gas and carbon monoxide. During Gas Safety Week there will be activities and competitions aimed at engaging with school children, particularly those aged 5 to 11.

Dan Foster at Be Safe Direct said: “Being gas safe is vital, but not everyone is aware of the dangers and signs of carbon monoxide leaks or poisoning. At Be Safe Direct, we are committed to doing our part to bring greater attention to this very important cause and help spread the potentially lifesaving advice.”
